Sibusiso Mfazwe, from Mfadaleni village in Port St John’s, Eastern Cape, is thankful to Scrolla.Africa for publishing his charcoal business story earlier this year.
The 28-year-old started his business in 2021, and it has grown since his story was shared.
“When Scrolla.Africa published my story, I never thought it would open so many doors for me. I’m happy and still can’t believe all the good things happening,” he said.
The Mount Ayliff Municipality asked Sibusiso to teach 20 young people how to make charcoal.
“This is a dream come true,” he said. “I’ve always wanted to teach others how to make charcoal so they can start their own businesses. If it wasn’t for Scrolla.Africa, I don’t think I would have gotten this chance.”
Sibusiso spent four weeks training the youth in Mount Ayliff and plans to visit other areas in the Eastern Cape to do the same.
“With high unemployment, these workshops will help young people do something useful while waiting for the government to create jobs,” he said.
Besides getting more customers, Sibusiso also received funding to grow his business.
“The funding will help me expand, and I’m grateful for the support,” he said.
Sibusiso now wants to hire more people.
“I have eight people working for me now, and with the funding, I hope to hire more. To young people struggling to find jobs, I encourage them to look for opportunities,” he said.
