Scouting for Kaizer Chiefs: Midfielders to sign

Kaizer Chiefs’ midfield rebuild ahead of the 2026/27 season may not only depend on signing established names.

While Amakhosi continue searching for greater control and balance in central areas, there are still several underrated midfielders in the Betway Premiership who could significantly improve the squad next season.

Part 1 looked at Grant Margeman and Isaac Cisse as possible solutions in midfield. But two other names continue attracting attention because of their unique qualities and growing influence in the league.

IBRAHIM BANCE BRINGS CAN OFFER KAIZER CHIEFS FLAIR AND CONTROL

1. Ibrahim Bance, 25, Marumo Gallants

The imposing West African offers more than just energy and defensive work-rate in midfield.

Bance combines creativity, composure and technical quality in ways Chiefs have often lacked this season. He is particularly effective in tight spaces where his dribbling ability and close control help him escape pressure and progress attacks.

The Ivorian also plays with confidence and flair, qualities that would likely make him an instant fan favourite at Naturena.

Bance averages around 82 percent passing accuracy while also maintaining impressive long-ball success. He is comfortable controlling tempo, switching play and finding advanced runners between defensive lines.

Defensively, he contributes consistently as well. In only 13 matches this season, he has already produced 29 defensive actions alongside six created chances going forward.

Before arriving in South Africa, Bance came through the famous ASEC Mimosas academy in Ivory Coast before gaining experience in Sweden with Helsingborgs IF and in the United States with Real Monarchs. That exposure to different football cultures has shaped him into a more adaptable and tactically intelligent midfielder.

KYLE JURGENS OFFERS GRIT AND PERSONALITY

2. Kyle Jurgens, 22, Durban City

Jurgens has quietly developed into one of the league’s most dependable young midfielders this season.

Coming from Ocean View in Cape Town and developed at the respected Ubuntu Football Academy, Jurgens has built his reputation around intelligence, aggression and tactical discipline.

Unlike traditional holding midfielders, he operates more as a genuine box-to-box player capable of covering huge distances throughout matches. His pressing intensity and hunger in duels have often seen him described as having a real “hond” in him.

His defensive numbers highlight that influence, with 48 tackles and 37 interceptions already this season while also contributing two assists going forward.

Kaizer Chiefs may have to pay a hefty fee now. New reports say Durban City have moved quickly to sign Jurgens on a three-year permanent deal.
