Scoring Is A Problem – Pitso Dladla

Richards Bay United co-coach Pitso Dladla says his side needs to address their goal scoring problems as the side blows hot and cold in the second half of the 2022/23 campaign and winless in the last five encounters including the Cup.

The Natal rich boys suffered their second successive DStv Premiership loss this year, 2-0 to Sekhukhune United this past weekend and slipped to fourth spot on the log tied on 31 points with Orlando Pirates above them in 20 outings. In the last six matches the side has managed to score four goals and have conceded seven. Dladla reflected on how Richards Bay has been dominating games saying that is not enough as they need to do better in the final third.

“If we are not looking only at this game now referring to the other previous encounters, we drew against SuperSport a game that we should have won. We dominated that game and then AmaZulu we drew with them and we dominated that game. Then Swallows FC we lost that game but we were also dominating. I think it is a matter of us maybe working more on the last third you know try to score more goals because we are becoming a team that is not scoring goals” he said.

“I’m only counting the league games I’m not counting the Nedbank where we scored two against Sundowns. But it is more about sitting down and trying to create more goals when we create those goals. It is a professional league there are not so many chances in this league but those few, just convert them and see what you can get out of the game”

“I think we need to work on that one. It is becoming a league whereby you also have to be a team that can win the games by 2-1, 3-2, 3-1 like that. We have 10 games to finish the league; it is a matter of defending well and converting your chances. But we are defending well because if you look at the mistakes that we did [against Sekhukhune] it’s not that the opponent maybe created. We did not take right decisions when we were in possession and they dispossessed our passes and then went and scored”

Dladla’s charges are at home against Stellenbosch on Saturday at the King Goodwill Zwelithini stadium (17:30).
