A teacher at Unity Secondary School in Daveyton, Ekurhuleni, has been removed after learners claimed he sexually abused them.

He is accused of inappropriately touching learners and masturbating in class.

Learners say they’ve been abused by the history and Sesotho teacher since 2021.

“He smokes dagga before classes, and when he is high, he demands that all the learners in his class queue as he puts his hands under our skirts to touch our private parts,” said one learner.

“He would also take turns touching the male learners on their private parts.”

The learners signed a petition demanding his removal.

Parents also protested outside the school on Monday.

“It took learners’ protests for action to be taken. We don’t want to see that teacher returning to the school premises,” one mother said.

A video circulating online shows the teacher touching a female learner under her skirt.

Learners say the teacher also touched male students and watched pornography in class.

“We can’t take it anymore,” one learner told Scrolla.Africa.

“We reported him before, but nothing happened. We just want him out of our school.”

The Gauteng education department is investigating the allegations, and the teacher has been transferred to the district on a precautionary notice.

“Once the investigation is concluded, the department will take the necessary steps,” said spokesperson Steve Mabona.
