The SA Weather Service is warning of heavy downpours and flooding in many provinces this coming weekend.

Rainy and cold conditions are expected to set in on Friday and last until Sunday.

Affected provinces include the eastern parts of the Northern and Eastern Cape, Free State, North-West, Gauteng, KZN, and the Highveld region of Mpumalanga.

The weather service says the agricultural sector, infrastructure, and informal settlements are likely to be affected by localized flooding.

It’s also warning of disruptions to beachfront activities and damage to infrastructure along the coastal region between Port Alfred and Sodwana Bay.

The public is urged to avoid crossing rivers and swollen streams, especially where the water is more than ankle-deep.
