  • SASSA announced December 2025 grant payments will begin on 2 December, covering over 19 million beneficiaries for the year’s final disbursement.
  • The Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant has been extended for 14 months, guaranteeing its continuation until March 2027.
  • Minister Godongwana affirmed the extension shows the government’s dual focus on supporting vulnerable households while maintaining fiscal discipline.

The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has confirmed the dates for the final disbursement of social grants for 2025, which will commence in the first week of December.

Sassa administers over 19 million monthly grant payments, covering various categories including Older Persons, Disability, and Child Support Grants.

Grant Category Payment Date
Older Persons Grant Tuesday, 2 December 2025
Disability Grant Wednesday, 3 December 2025
Children’s Grants Thursday, 4 December 2025

Current grant values remain in effect, with the standard Older Persons and Disability grants set at R2,315, while the Child Support Grant stands at R560.

In related news, the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) Grant (R370) has been extended for a further 14 months, guaranteeing its continuation until March 2027.

This decision builds upon a previous extension and was affirmed by Minister of Finance Enoch Godongwana.

Godongwana stated that the extension demonstrates the government’s commitment to protecting vulnerable households while simultaneously maintaining fiscal discipline.

“We remain focused on providing a safety net for the most vulnerable, while continuing with measures to stabilise public finances,” he remarked.
