SAPS files an inquest after a woman dies in a fire at Bethelsdorp

Bethelsdorp Detectives opened an inquest after a shack fire claimed the life of a 38-year-old woman in Kleinskool early Saturday, 20 August 2022.

It is alleged that, a family of four were sleeping in the house,  at in Ceratonia Street, Kleinskool, when the daughter of the deceased woke up to the house on fire.

She noticed that the blanket that was covering her mother had caught alight. She called out to her father and he was only able to help the daughter and son to get out of the house however when he wanted to go back to help his girlfriend, the fire was too intense. Nicolett Stefaans (38) died in the fire.

It is alleged that a heater was on in the house and could have caused the fire. An inquest was opened at Bethelsdorp SAPS and investigation is underway.
