On Wednesday, March 30th, actress Natasha Thahane became a trending topic… sorry this time it had nothing to do with Lorch nor his freak accident.
So yesterday, Sibongile Mani, a Walter Sisulu University education honours degree student, was sentenced to five years in prison for spending R818 000 of the R14 million that was accidentally transferred into her account from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS).
Many people were curious as to why the actress from Blood & Water had not been investigated. After all, she admitted on MacG’s Podcast and Chill in 2021 to have used her influence to acquire close to R1 million New York Film Academy scholarship from the government.
Natasha who is the granddaughter of the late Archbishop Desmond Tutu told MacG that after quitting her role as Amo on the Mzansi Magic telenovela The Queen to further her studies in 2017, she enrolled on a one-year course at the New York Film Academy. This is when Mbete came to her rescue financially.
“I asked Mam’ Baleka (Mbete) and was like, ‘Mama, I need to go back to school. I’ve been accepted… I don’t know what I’m going to do, can I have funds? Please arrange something for me.’ She managed to speak to (the department) Arts and Culture and they were able to help me,” she had said on the podcast.
No matter how many times Natasha was placed on the trend list, after revealing being presented with an opportunity to study overseas through connectiions no investigation was conducted.
Instead she was advised to leave Twitter for Instagram, to avoid being in our eyes!!
