Nandi Nyembe’s haunting words about her burial resurface

Tributes continue to pour in for veteran actress Nandi Nyembe, who sadly passed away on Saturday, 23 August 2025.

Among those honoring her memory is award-winning star Sannah Mchunu, who posted a moving old video of Nyembe reflecting on death and the struggles of South African actors.

In the resurfaced clip, Nyembe expressed how she feared that when her time came, her peers and the public would have to collect money just to lay her to rest.

“When I die tomorrow, we are all going to pop up money so that I can be buried,” she said.

Mchunu, who once helped the late actress during a difficult financial period, shared the video on Instagram this week, sparking an outpouring of reactions from colleagues and fans.

The late star, widely known for her roles in House of Zwide and Ashes to Ashes, had previously faced a bizarre death hoax back in 2021 after her character MaZwide was killed on the hit e.tv drama.

Rumors quickly spread online that Nyembe herself had passed away, leaving the actress both shocked and frustrated.

At the time, she told Daily Sun: “I can’t believe one can run with such a malicious story and even add my age.”

She revealed that her loved ones were shaken by the false reports, with some breaking down when they finally heard her voice.

“People broke into tears when they heard my voice when I answered the phone, and some were even afraid to call me,” Nyembe said.
