Businessman Lawrence Mudzinganyama has been granted R15,000 bail after appearing in the Randburg Magistrates Court on Thursday.
EWN reports that the 40-year-old is facing several charges linked to an incident at Vlamo Restaurant in Sandton earlier this month. These include three counts of intimidation, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, crimen injuria and fraud.
Mudzinganyama had previously been released on a warning after his arrest, but the State asked the court to reconsider that decision and impose bail instead.
Bail conditions imposed
The court granted Mudzinganyama bail of R15,000.
As part of his bail conditions, he has surrendered his travel documents and must remain in Gauteng while the case continues. He is also required to report to police once a week.
The matter has been postponed to 15 October.
Charges linked to Sandton restaurant incident
According to EWN, the charges stem from an incident at Vlamo Restaurant involving a group of women.
The publication reports that Mudzinganyama entered the women’s powder room and demanded to take photographs of one of the women.
Video footage from the incident later circulated widely online and triggered public criticism.
Police confirmed earlier that Mudzinganyama handed himself over at the Randburg Police Station following the incident.
Business dealings also came under scrutiny
The incident also drew attention to Mudzinganyama’s business links.
Transport Minister Barbara Creecy ordered a review of contracts involving Moriel Infrastructure Group, a company previously linked to Mudzinganyama.
EWN reported that the company later announced that Mudzinganyama had been removed as a director and executive chairman.
The court case remains ongoing, and the charges against Mudzinganyama have not yet been determined at trial.
