Fans were surprised when Samthing Soweto, one of the singers on the amapiano song Amalanga Awafani, was not credited on the song’s release.
Mas Musiq announced the song on Tuesday, crediting Lawd Weezy, Star Quality and DJ Maphorisa but omitting Samthing Soweto.
Samthing Soweto then shared a broken heart emoji on social media.
He said the song would only be released in July after the proper share of the songwriting credits were settled.
DJ Maphorisa said Samthing Soweto didn’t contribute much to the song and had unfairly blamed Mas Musiq for omitting his name.
He said Samthing Soweto owns the song master, so any complaints should be aimed at him, not Mas Musiq.
Maphorisa said Samthing’s attitude has made it hard for them to work together.
“It [Amalanga Awafani] was recorded in my house. He [Samthing Soweto] owns the whole master… if you want to cancel someone, cancel me. I’ll bounce back. But Mas Musiq did nothing wrong. He tried his best to release the song, but Samthing doesn’t know how to handle his business,” Maphorisa said.
People on social media had mixed opinions, with one posting, “Just remove the vocals! Problem solved!”
Another wrote, “[Maphorisa’s] avoiding the real issue. It’s not about his [Samthing’s] contribution to the genre; it’s about giving credit for the song. Samthing Soweto should sue.”
