The South African Football Association (SAFA) have sent an official complaint to CAF over an advantage Morocco received ahead of their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Earlier this week it was confirmed that Liberia would play their home and away games against the Atlas Lions in North Africa due to their stadiums not meeting CAF requirements.
Morocco went through their recent 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers without having to travel for away games before reaching the play-offs over similar circumstances which went largely unopposed by their opposition.
However, SAFA sent an official complaint to CAF Secretary-General Mr Veron Mosengo-Omba objecting to the decision; stating that it is not in the spirit of fair play.
The letter written by CEO Tebogo Motlanthe stated that it is unfair that one team in the group will receive home ground advantage more than South Africa, Liberia and Zimbabwe – along with less travel involved along with playing in front of their own fans.
CAF have yet to respond to the complaint amidst the recent uproar around Morocco being awarded the CAF Champions League final for a second consecutive season.
