The South African Football Association (SAFA) has received government and SASCOC‘s guarantees and has officially launched their bid to host the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2027.
This comes after SAFA informed FIFA that they are interested in hosting the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2027.
Initially, the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) gave the SAFA president Danny Jordaan a letter of support when he departed for the Women’s World Cup 2023 draw two months ago.
Jordaan attended the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup draw in Auckland, New Zealand, on 22 October to garner support and to oversee the facilities in those two countries.
The SAFA president also used the time in New Zealand to tell the attendees and many others around the globe about South Africa’s intention to bid to host the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup tournament.
“South Africa and the joint bid in Europe (Belgium, Germany) are the only ones who have put it on record that we are bidding to host the World Cup,” a source told iDiski Times.
South Africa has the facilities such as stadiums proven having become the first African nation to host the FIFA Men’s World Cup in 2010 and FIFA Confederation Cup in 2009, which was known as the dress rehearsal tournament to the World Cup.
“We have the infrastructure; we have everything conceivable things required. But SAFA is working behind the scenes and furiously making sure that we are in line to submit the bid officially as soon as we get started.
“Since the president and the CEO Tebogo Motlante, since they are in Qatar, are engaging and having meetings and talking to people and all various stakeholders of football, that we are going to bid for the 2027 World Cup.”
South Africa is just the second nation to officially confirm its bid after the Netherlands had done so.
Chile, Italy, the United States of America, Mexico and the Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden) have previously expressed an interest.
