SAFA dismisses reports of Hugo Broos contract extension
The South African Football Association (SAFA) has dismissed reports claiming Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has already been offered a new contract. The association says the reports are false, misleading, and have no factual basis.
Several media reports alleged that Broos had received a one-year contract extension. However, SAFA has now moved to set the record straight.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the association confirmed that Broos remains under contract until the end of July 2026. SAFA stressed that no new contract has been issued to the Belgian coach. The association also revealed that its internal governance processes regarding the Bafana Bafana technical team have not yet been completed. As a result, no decision has been taken on Broos’ future.
“No contract has been issued or approved by the National Executive Committee,” SAFA said.
The football body expressed disappointment that reports were published claiming Broos had already secured a contract extension. It also criticised reports that relied on unnamed sources. According to SAFA, such reports create unnecessary speculation, mislead football supporters, and undermine the association’s decision-making processes.
SAFA urged media organisations to seek comment from the association before publishing reports about national team matters. The association said a simple request for comment would help verify facts and prevent the spread of false information.
SAFA added that it remains committed to transparent communication with football stakeholders. The association promised that an official announcement regarding the Bafana Bafana coaching position will only be made once all internal processes have been concluded and the relevant structures have reached a decision.
Until then, SAFA has encouraged supporters to rely only on its official communication channels for accurate information regarding the national teams.
