Tebogo Motlanthe has resigned as CEO of the South African Football Association (SAFA) on Friday, iDiski Times can confirm.
Motlanthe, 41, has tendered his resignation as SAFA CEO on Friday, causing an ad-hoc emergency meeting, as first reported by SABC Sport, and confirmed to iDiski Times via a source from inside SAFA.
At 39, Advocate Motlanthe became the youngest SAFA Chief Executive Officer (CEO) when he was appointed officially in January 2022.
He had served as an acting CEO since April 2020 and had previously served the FA as a Head of Legal and Compliance after having worked at the 2010 FIFA World Cup Local Organising Committee.
The reasons for his resignation are unclear at this stage, but it comes just a few weeks after the SAFA and the Premier Soccer League leadership clashed, resulting in the later refusing to attend a workshop/Indaba of SAFA’s Regional Members on 21 and 22 April 2023, which is to be followed by an Ordinary SAFA Congress on 23 of April.
Motlanthe followed on from former SAFA CEO’s Gay Mokoena and Russel Paul, who were both acting, while Dennis Mumble was the last actual CEO.
