Main purpose of the position:
To produce and deliver compelling and incisive high quality television news content in line SABC News public mandate objectives
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Write, translate and edit scripts and video clips according to the house style.
- Check the facts of stories from the various news sources to ensure accurate and factual product.
- Edit text and copy from field and wire and ensure it is short and crisp
- Voice reports
- Copy taste in order to identify stories for use on TV news bulletins
- Liaise with reporters and search wires for breaking stories, fresh angles and updates on stories
- Advise the Bulletin Editor on new and developing story angles.
- Tailor story to allotted time within the bulletin
- Preview tapes to ensure correct sound levels, timing and visuals
- Correct linguistic and factual errors in the script
- Attend briefing meetings
- Ensure that stories are produced to prescribed Standard Operating Procedures.
- Adhere to the SABC Editorial Policies, BCCSA and Press Codes as well as other relevant regulations.
- Adherence to organisational policies and procedures.
- Attend briefing and debriefing sessions with Bulletin Editor.
- Participate in brainstorming sessions and discuss story ideas, angles and sources with the team, and other contributors.
- Liaise with senior editorial team members regarding technical support and editorial requirements.
Requirements:
- National Diploma / NQF 6 in Journalism or Media Studies or equivalent qualifications.
- 4 years’ proven experience in writing and producing news bulletins
- Understanding of all regulations and legislation impacting broadcasting
- Sound understanding of current trends in social, economic and political environment
- Computer literacy
- Ability to interact with different stakeholders at different levels
- Understanding of multi-media platforms
- Excellent command of both written and spoken language to optimise the impact editorial content. Advanced knowledge and understanding of audio-visual news production processes and systems.
- Editorial and journalistic acumen.
- Sound knowledge of and interest in television and digital news trends
