A woman with the handle @d.kaeii on TikTok shared a screenshot of her R17 000 emergency airtime on Friday, 5 May from Telkom and trended on social media.

WHAT IS AN EMERGENCY AIRTIME?
The South African woman also went viral on Twitter when a tweep @aurababy18 shared her TikTok video: “There’s this hun on TikTok she’s owing R17 000 ya emergency airtime”.
According to Telkom, emergency top-up allows Telkom prepaid and top-up customers to get immediate access to airtime or data on credit and pay later with the next recharge. It is offered in two options, Airtime or Data options.
A tweep with the handle @Pamela393304832 revealed that the woman’s emergency airtime could have accumulated to R17 000 amount as the more you top up, the higher your advance,
