David Notoane has announced his starting XI for the first leg of their Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Congo Brazzaville.
The match kicks off at 15:00 at Dobsonville Stadium today, with excitement growing over the new crop of talents in Notoane’s squad.
However, South Africa enter the game on the back of six winless matches, which include their three defeats at last year’s Olympic Games.
Notoane and his men, though, want to qualify for the Olympics again and to do so they need to book their ticket at the U23 AFCON, where the top three sides will then secure their Olympics ticket.
South Africa already eliminated Togo’s U23 side in the previous round, thanks to a 2-2 draw away from home, which was followed by a goalless draw in Mzansi to advance on away goals.
Meanwhile, Congo Brazzaville knocked out Tunisia on away goals, beating them 1-0 at home before losing the away leg 2-1.
Those two games were Congo’s first matches after a three-year break, which should play in favour of Notoane’s men.
