According to Athlenda Mathe, a police spokesperson, the suspects, aged 27 and 29, were taken into custody in Piet Retief and Ermelo.
Mathe further stated that a multidisciplinary team responsible for investigating the truck attacks and subsequent burnings had successfully made their initial arrests in Mpumalanga.
Both suspects are now facing charges of malicious damage to property.
National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola has cautioned that additional arrests are to be expected.
Masemola emphasized that the police are actively pursuing the main culprits behind these sporadic criminal incidents.
He issued a warning, stating that the suspects should either surrender themselves or be apprehended by the authorities.
It is worthy of note that police minister Bheki Cele announced on Wednesday that law enforcement agencies have identified 12 individuals of interest who are believed to be responsible for the truck burnings.
These individuals are currently under investigation. Over the past week, more than 20 trucks have been set ablaze in various provinces, including KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng, Limpopo, and Mpumalanga.
