South African-born dance sensation Oti Mabuse has been officially announced as the new Head Judge of Ireland’s Dancing with the Stars.

This marks another glittering milestone in her illustrious career.

OTI MABUSE’S NEW ROLE

The former BBC Strictly Come Dancing professional takes over from Loraine Barry, who stepped down after leading the panel for eight series.

This appointment is more than a celebration of local talent thriving on the global stage. Born in Pretoria, Oti Mabuse is one of only two professional dancers to win Strictly twice.

She partnered with Kelvin Fletcher in 2019 and Bill Bailey in 2020, according to the Irish Post.

DANCING WITH THE STARS

She has also dominated the South African Latin American Championship, winning it eight times.

This was all before moving to Germany to expand her dance career, according to The Journal.

Speaking about her new role, Oti Mabuse said: “Dance has been such a huge part of my life, and now having the chance to celebrate Ireland’s incredible talent is a joy.”

She expressed her excitement to work with returning judges Brian Redmond, Arthur Gourounlian, and Karen Byrne. The dancer added that Irish audiences have always been “warm, supportive and fun-loving.”

OTI MABUSE’S CAREER

Her career boasts titles including second place at the 2014 European Championship Latin, third in the World Cup Freestyle Latin.

She also won first place in the German PD Freestyle Latin Championship.

Beyond Strictly, Oti Mabuse has dazzled on Germany’s Let’s Dance, served as a panellist on ITV’s The Masked Dancer, and judged Dancing on Ice from 2022 to 2025.

SOUTH AFRICAN TALENT

While South African fans may not have direct access to Ireland’s Dancing with the Stars via local broadcasters, many have shared their pride online.

Comments were congratulating her despite her missing her performances at home. Her achievement continues to inspire aspiring dancers in South Africa.

This proves that world-class talent can emerge from local dance studios and conquer international stages.

PASSION AND EXPERTISE

The ninth series of Ireland’s Dancing with the Stars will return to RTÉ One in January 2026.

With Oti Mabuse at the helm, audiences can expect passion, expertise, and plenty of sparkle. A testament to South African excellence in the toughest and most prestigious arenas of global dance.
