South African-born defender Nikola Tavares has signed a two-year deal with English National League side Dagenham & Redbridge.

The club who missed out on the playoffs by just one point have secured the 23-year-old defender as they look to launch a promotion bid into the League Two next season.

He racked up 27 appearances for Wealdstone in the same division during the 2021/22 campaign after joining the club on a free transfer upon the expiry of his contract with Crystal Palace.

Tavares, who was born in Cape Town, has represented Croatia at youth level but remains eligible to represent both countries at senior level.

During his time in South Africa, he featured for Hellenic before making the switch to the United Kingdom where he was part of the Brentford youth system in 2016 before being snapped by Palace a year later.
