Zimbabwe marked its Heroes’ Day celebrations with a vibrant night of music and unity, blending national pride with electrifying entertainment.

The commemorations, which honoured the sacrifices of the nation’s liberation heroes, saw a South African artist, Kevin Momo, performing in the city of Bulawayo.

Zimbabwe celebrates Heroes’ Day

Observed annually on the second Monday of August, Heroes’ Day stands as one of the most important dates on Zimbabwe’s calendar.

It gave citizens a chance to reflect on the courage, resilience, and sacrifices made by those who fought for the country’s independence. Across the nation, people gathered at memorial sites, attended community events, and paid respects to those whose bravery paved the way for freedom.

In Bulawayo, organisers gave the commemorations a modern twist.

Adding to the excitement, one of South Africa’s celebrated DJs and Amapiano producers landed at Joshua Mqabuko International Airport earlier in the day ahead of his debut performance in the city.

His set lit up the venue and kept fans on their feet until the early hours.

“I can’t tell you how thrilled I am to finally be here in Bulawayo. It’s always been a dream of mine to connect with my fans outside of South Africa, and I’m ready to make this night unforgettable,” he told The Chronicle before the show.

For many in attendance, the timing of his appearance felt fitting.

Heroes’ Day not only honoured the struggles of the past but also celebrated the unity, creativity, and resilience that define Zimbabwe today.

Music, with its power to transcend differences, united people under one roof in a shared spirit of national pride.
