Rulani Responds To Koller Plea To Beat Al Hilal

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena has issued a clear response to Al Ahly head coach Marcel Koller who inadvertently asked them for a favour.

Sundowns beat Ahly 5-2 at Loftus Versveld on Saturday afternoon to qualify for the quarter-finals of Africa’s elite club competition by virtue of their superior head-to-head record against the Egyptian giants.

Ahly will now need to beat Coton Sport in Cameroon and Al Hilal in Cairo and hope that Sundowns beat Florent Ibenge’s side away from home to have any chance of advancing alongside Masandawana to the next stage of the competition.

With five finals in the last six seasons, the Red Devils are needing a favour from the DStv Premiership champions, and Koller stated he hopes they will remain ethical in their approach to the remaining two group games.

“We are honest, believe me, we are honest, we will do the best we can, we want to win football matches and it’s important that we continue to win football matches,” Mokwena said in the post-match press conference.

“And if my colleague thinks we will not, he can 100% be guaranteed that we will give everything to win the next couple of matches, every single match we try to win, we play to win, we work to win every single day.

“We will play even more fairly, if he has any doubts, he can be 100% guaranteed.”

The Brazilians will face Royal AM on Tuesday in the league before making the trip to Sundan to face Hilal at the Al Hilal Stadium on Saturday (15h00).
