Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena praised several of his players after his side’s 3-2 win over Richards Bay on Tuesday evening.

The victory, which was more dominant than the score-line suggests, saw Masandawana book their ticket for the last 16.

Mokwena opted to once again rotate his squad, with the likes of Bongani Zungu and Lesedi Kapinga getting rare starts.

After the match, Mokwena was full of praise for his side, saying they should’ve won by a bigger margin.

“Today I thought we played very, very well,” he told SuperSportTV.

“Lesedi [Kapinga] was good, [Surprise] Rulani was good, Sipho [Mbule] was good. [Thabiso] Kutumela came on at half-time and was good. Mosa [Lebusa] was very good and scored an important goal for us.

“Rushine [De Reuck] came on and was very good, Mothobi [Mvala] was good. Riva, it was good to see Riva on the pitch [after] one full year actually.

“So congratulations and I’m very happy for the Yellow Nation, congratulations, now to the next round.”

Of all the players used today, Coetzee is probably the biggest boost for Downs, as he was sidelined with a serious injury since 02 March 2022.

Meanwhile, Marumo Gallants, who reached the last two Nedbank Cup finals, beat Magesi 3-1 in the other match of the night to book their spot in the last 16.
