Rulani Opens Up On Tau After Sensational Showing

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena says he needs to refrain from waxing lyrical about Percy Tau, who was a standout performer for Al Ahly on Saturday.

Tau was on the losing side in a heavy 5-2 defeat ar Loftus Versveld, which sealed Sundowns’ qualification for the quarter-final due to their superior head-to-head record against the Red Devils.

The Bafana Bafana forward, was, however, a constant thorn to the Masadawana defence and forced Aubrey Modiba into an error for the Mohamed Sherif’s goal to make it 1-1 and then netted an incredible indivdual effort to make it 3-2 before the flood gates opened.

“That question… I said before the game, I really reserve comments on him, Percy knows what I think, Percy knows exactly what I think [of him], before the end of the game I whispered it, after the game at the end, he waited in the tunnel,” Mokwena said when asked about Tau’s performance on the day.

“He’s an incredible human being. You must see when Percy is in South Africa, he comes to my house, he loves caps and things, but the first thing he does is takes his cap off.

“I’m talking about a Bafana international, I’m talking about a player who’s played Champions League, English Premier League – and the first sign is respect.

“And good football players have this thing of being a good human being, but I don’t want to speak too much about Percy because one; he’s not a Sundowns player, and two; I’m very biased, so whatever I say will come out a little bit on the other side.

“So I focus a lot on my players, I’m very proud of them and very grateful for the opportunity and blessing to be their coach.”
