Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Rulani Mokwena has insisted the club “will make the necessary announcements” around new arrival Marcelo Allende as well as likely departure Pavol Šafranko soon.
Allende, 23, has bid farewell from his friends and family on Monday, as he was set to travel to South Africa.
His former club Montevideo City Torque already announced his transfer to Sundowns, but the DStv Premiership champions are yet to confirm the move.
Mokwena has asked for the club to be given time to finalise their transfer business before the window closes on 22 September.
“He hasn’t arrived yet, but as I said the club will make announcements in due course,” the Sundowns co-coach told Thabiso Mosia on SAFMSportOn when asked about Allende.
Mokwena also insisted that he cannot give any details regarding Šafranko’s future, with the Slovakia international expected to be surplus to requirements at Chloorkop due to the quota on foreign spots in the squad.
“It’s not only Šafranko, it’s all our foreigners. We have to allow the club to diligently work by process,” Mokwena explained.
“Like I said there are a lot of support structures, important support structures and bigger responsibilities because our’s sometimes is just also focus on trying to win the next match.
“I’m sure the club will make the relevant announcements in due course.”
With Peter Shalulile entering his seventh year in South Africa, there’s a chance he will be registered as a local player but Erwin Saavedra (Bolivia), Gastón Sirino (Uruguay), Šafranko (Slovakia) and new arrival Abubeker Nassir (Ethiopia).
Divine Lunga, who took up one of the five spots last season, has already left the club to join Richards Bay, but with the arrivals of Allende as well as centre-back Abdelmounaim Boutouil, Downs would still need to free up one more spot – likely to be Šafranko.
