Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena has issued the latest injury update on Cassius Mailula, insisting that the attacker will be back soon.
The right-winger missed Sundowns’ DStv Premiership clash against Marumo Gallants at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday night.
Mokwena has confirmed that Mailula’s injury is “not serious” and the player is expected to be back with the team soon.
The 21-year-old footballer was ruled out of the Gallants game due to a hamstring injury.
It was initially feared that Mailula might be ruled out for the remainder of the season but that won’t be the case, with Sundowns fans breathing a sigh of relief.
OTHER INJURED MAMELODI SUNDOWNS PLAYERS
Mailula was not the only player who missed out on when Sundowns beat Bahlabane ba Ntwa 2-0.
Other players who were ruled out are Marcelo Allende [ankle injury], Abubeker Nasir [quadriceps Injury], and Erwin Saavedra [knee injury].
“Cassius will be back soon,” Mokwena told journalists in Polokwane. “The injury is not as big as we thought.”
Mailula has become a vital player for Masandawana this season, having found the back of the net on 15 occasions from 29 games across all competitions and has also contributed four assists.
However, it’s not clear if Mailula will be ready when Bafana Ba Style takes on Wydad AC in the CAF Champions League semi-final first leg next on 13 May, 2023.
But Mokwena sounded so optimistic that the talented winger will be available for their game against North Africans.
RULANI MOKWENA’S MESSAGE TO MARUMO GALLANTS
Mokwena also sent messages of support to Gallants. They are also set to face Tanzania’s Young Africans CAF Confederation Cup semis.
“We wish Marumo Gallants the very best, they are South African and they represent the entire country,” added Mokwena.
