Mamelodi Sundowns first-team coach Steve Komphela has revealed how Rulani Mokwena has developed into a “monster”.

The ex-Kaizer Chiefs coach, Komphela, made this bold statement when he recalled working with young Mokwena at Platinum Stars back then.

Mokwena is often slated as a coach that is just seen as good to many. But, Komphela insists that the 36-year-old mentor is more than a good coach, but a genius that has turned into a monster coach.

It goes without a doubt that Mokwena boasts the ability to develop his troops into something that not only fits into his system of play, but also grows them as individuals.

In fact, Mokwena is also not afraid to play his younger players from the development ranks in games of paramount importance.

This has been proven by the likes of Cassius Mailula, who has become the talk of the town.

To put a cherry on top, who leave out youngsters such as Ntando Nkosi, Jeremo Karelse and Thando Buthelezi.

‘HE HAS DEVELOPED INTO A MONSTER’

“He [Rulani Mokwena] has developed into a monster and he’s unbelievable. It’s beautiful to genius striving,” Komphela told the media after the Nedbank Cup quarterfinals draw at SuperSport Studios in Randburg on Monday, 13 March 2023.

“I don’t want to start putting stories that after two or three weeks they come out and appear as if I said this yesterday. But the fact remains, he’s a genius.

Komphela did not beat around the bush to speak out on how Mokwena has developed as a football coach. Since their heydays at the now-defunct defunct Platinum Stars.

‘HE HAS GONE TO ANOTHER LEVEL’

“And even when we worked together at Platinum Stars with Allan Freese, it was just clear and beyond anything,” he added.

“The hard work and passion have gone to another level.”

Bafana Ba Style will face the in-form Cape Town outfit Stellenbosch FC in the Nedbank Cup quarterfinal. And Mokwena will put test to continue to show what he is capable of in their quest to defend the title.
