Mamelodi Sundowns co-head coach Rulani Mokwena has revealed that Peter Shalulile has a muscular problem, which requires him to see a specialist.

Shalulile, 28, has scored six goals in the DStv Premiership this season, but made his last game for Masandawana on 1 October in the MTN8 semi-final first leg against Orlando Pirates.

He missed his side’s two CAF Champions League legs with La Passe and Wednesday’s DStv Premiership win over Marumo Gallants, with many suspecting he is just being rested, but Mokwena revealed Shalulile has a more serious problem.

“He’s got a little bit of complicated situation and we are trying to see various specialists and get different opinions,” he said in his post-match press conference.

“Anything that I would be just based suspicion and not factual. So let’s wait a little bit and I think the club will update.

“But at the moment, [he’s] unavailable because there is a bit of a complication with Peter – when I say complication I mean muscular, nothing else, just muscular.

“So let’s wait, we’re trying to get different opinions, different feedback from different specialists and as a club we’ll give proper feedback.”

Shalulile has scored 58 goals in 95 appearances and his absence leaves the club a bit short upfront after the departures of Kermit Erasmus and Pavol Safranko, while Abubeker Nasir has also been sidelined since September.
