Rulani Mokwena has broken his silence after the changes around the technical team at Mamelodi Sundowns.
On Monday, Sundowns announced that Mokwena named the Head Coach of the club, while former co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi was demoted to Senior Coach – the role formerly held by Steve Komphela.
The latter meanwhile is now the First Team Coach at the club, leading many fans confused as to what is going on.
The club’s management explained these changes based on “the poor performances and unconvincing victories that the club has experienced for quite some time”, with Tuesday’s DSTv Premiership match the first since the club’s reshuffling of the technical team.
Ahead of the match, Mokwena was asked to elaborate on how his role has changed, but he was not prepared to go into details.
“No, what’s important is it’s a club decision and the club is far more important than all of us,” he told SuperSport TV.
“What we need now is just to move on and get the Yellow Nation behind us, because we do everything for the club. We are servants of this institution and we just keep going.”
Mokwena also remained rare on words, when asked for a second time to explain the change in his position.
“No,” he simply responded when asked whether there was a major change in his role.
