Royal AM could not take advantage of their home leg against ZESCO United as they shared a goalless draw in the Confederation Cup of the second round at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Sunday.
But they had chances aplenty in the second half despite being on the back foot in the first half.
Royal AM was lucky to survive wave of attacks in the first half. But goalkeeper Xolani Ngcobo saved them dearly. Abram Nteo’s side could have stolen it in the 80th minute, but Ian Otieno produced a top save to deny Sedwyn George.
But ZESCO had the better of chances, showing desire to win the game. But found Ngcobo in good form.
As Ngcobo drew too many saves in the first half, he had to be at his best to make double saves in the 39th minute. However, Royal AM quickly replied three minutes later, but Mfundo Thikazi, having jinked his way inside the box, his cross eluded everyone.
Overall, though, Royal AM survived a scare, with the Zambian side on the front foot and papering the goals.
Royal AM improved in the second half, however, George missed a big chance in the 80th minute, failing to beat Otieno when he was clean through.
Kabelo Mahlasela also weaved away from markers later on, but Otieno tipped the ball away for a corner.
These two sides will meet again in the second leg at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola on Saturday.
