Royal AM are the 2022 KwaZulu-Natal Premiers Cup champions after beating AmaZulu 2-1 in the final on Sunday afternoon.

Royal AM skipper Samuel Manganyi gave his side the lead just before half-time in Sunday’s final at the Harry Gwala Stadium.

Augustine Kwem equalised for AmaZulu with twenty minutes to go, but  Ruzaigh Gamildien wrapped up the game from the penalty spot, making it 2-1 in the 87th minute.

AmaZulu reached the final after beating Golden Arrows in Sunday afternoon’s semi-final, winning a penalty shootout 5-4, Veli Mothwa making the key save, after a goalless draw in the 90 minutes.

On Sunday morning in the first semi-final, Uthongathi came from two goals down against Royal AM to force a 2-2 draw and take the game to penalties. But AM were comfortable 4-2 winners in the shootout, booking their spot in the final.

It had taken a shootout on Saturday for Royal AM to book that semi spot, as they beat Richards Bay after a 1-1 draw in regulation time. Also on Saturday, Simo Dladla’s Uthongathi side earned their semi place with a 3-1 win over Maritzburg United.
