Royal AM Star Explains Why He’s Grateful To MaMkhize

Royal AM and Cameroon goalkeeper Hugo Nyame says he is “two hundred percent fit” after he overcame a neck injury that caused a serious health scare, struggling to breath and taken to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Nyame, to be where he is right now, said it was not going to be possible without the effort of the club’s president Shauwn Mkhize, who was by his side during the tough period in the ICU.

The goalie’s recovery has been clear as in three matches he has played since his return as the season resumed from FIFA World Cup break, Royal AM have kept two clean sheets and collected four points in the process to move to fifth in the DStv Premiership log standings.

The veteran goalie was taken to hospital after SuperSport United striker Bradley Grobler landed on him badly on his neck in the 3-1 loss in October in Pretoria last year.

He then missed seven matches in the process, with coach Abram Nteo opting for Xolani Ngcobo and Mondli Mpoto in goals.

“You can see by yourself that I’m okay, I’m 200 % fine,” said Nyame to iDiski Times.

“I don’t have much to say to MaMkhize because what she did to me was unbelievable and I’m just happy that I’m playing in her team because she was amazing at what she did while I was in hospital.

“So I can say thank you to her, and I don’t think there will be any team who will take me from here.”

As Royal AM moved to fifth in the DStv Premiership table with a 2-0 victory over Usuthu, Nyame said to be where they are they are not associated with that position, but they should be up there like it was last season.

Last term, Royal AM were tough nuts to crack, losing only twice at home on their way to finishing third in the DStv Premiership and qualifying for the CAF Confederation Cup.

“We are used to being in the top three and where we are it is not our position,” said a bullish Nyame, whose side next face Maritzburg United at Harry Gwala Stadium on Sunday (17:30).

“We still have to work hard on certain aspects to reach where we deserve to be, but that will come with time and training together.”
