South African football fans are celebrating after the nation’s captain and stalwart goalkeeper, Ronwen Williams, was officially nominated for the FIFPRO Men’s World 11 at The Best FIFA Football Awards 2025.

Williams is amongst the elite list of goalkeepers vying for a coveted spot in the global team of the year.

The nomination is a fitting recognition of an extraordinary period for the Bafana Bafana goalkeeper, who has cemented his reputation as one of the continent’s best.

Williams’s remarkable run of form includes:

  • Lifting the 2024-25 South African Premiership title with his club.
  • Playing a pivotal role in the 2024-25 CAF Champions League campaign, where his side finished as runners-up.
  • Securing two major continental accolades in 2024: the CAF African Goalkeeper of the Year award and the CAF African Inter-Club Player of the Year (recognising the best player based in Africa).
  • Keeping an impressive two clean sheets in three appearances at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, further showcasing his world-class ability on the global stage.
