Cristiano Ronaldo has once again written history at the FIFA World Cup after becoming the first ever men’s player to score in five different editions.

Ronaldo netted Portugal’s 1-0 opener from the penalty spot in the 65th minute.

As a consequence, Ronaldo has now netted in five different World Cup tournaments.

Ronaldo goes one tournament clear of four players who have netted in four World Cups, namely Uwe Seeler (Germany), Pele (Brazil), Miroslav Klose (Germany) and Lionel Messi (Argentina).

He netted once in 2006, once in 2010, once in 2014, four in 2018 and now another in 2022.

Overall, he has now netted eight goals at World Cups and 118 in 192 appearances for Portugal.
