Cristiano Ronaldo has for the first time comments in public on his bombshell interview and also the alleged cold handshake between him and Bruno Fernandes.

The Portugal captain made a surprise appearance at a Portugal press conference on Monday morning, where he addressed his controversial interview with Piers Morgan for the first time.

The 37-year-old spoke to the English journalist ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, claiming he “feels betrayed” by Manchester United and “forced out” of the club, while he also revealed he “doesn’t respect” head coach Erik Ten Hag.

On Monday, Ronaldo appeared at an unscheduled press conference and was asked about his interview.

“Timing is always timing. From your side it is easy to look at how we can chose timings. Sometimes you write truths, sometimes you write lies,” he said, as per talkSPORT.

“I don’t have to think about what other people think. I speak when I want.

“The players know me really well for many years and know the type of person I am. It’s an ambitious group that is hungry and focused. So I’m sure (the interview) won’t shake the changing room’s concentration and focus.

“I don’t have to worry what others think. I talk when I want to.”

Ronaldo also addressed his seemingly frosty handshake with Manchester United teammate Bruno Fernandes, saying the duo were just joking around.

“We were playing around last week. His plane was late – I asked him did you come by boat.

“Please, don’t ask players about me – ask about the World Cup.”

Finally, Ronaldo insisted that his sole focus is on the World Cup now, where Portugal will start the tournament against Ghana on Thursday.

“I’m feeling great, I’m recovered and I’m training well and ready to start the World Cup in the best way possible,” he added.

“I feel that this Portugal squad has amazing potential. I think we can win for sure, but we need to focus on the next game. So, it’s focusing in Ghana, get a win and go from there.”
