Cristiano Ronaldo has cleared up the situation where he allegedly swore at his own coach Fernando Santos for substituting him.
Ronaldo looked incensed after being hauled off against South Korea at 1-1, with the European nation eventually losing 2-1.
It was claimed in Portuguese media that he aimed some foul words at Santos before eventually going to the bench. But Ronaldo sense his anger was directed to a player.
“What happened was before my substitution, the South Korea player told me to get off quickly,” Ronaldo told Portuguese media, as per The Mirror.
“I told him to shut up as he doesn’t have that authority. There was no disagreement (with the coach).”
Santos reiterated Ronaldo’s claims saying he ‘saw’ the incident between the two players.
Portugal will now face Switzerland in the next round, with the winner set to face Morocco or Spain in the quarter-finals.
