  • Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe was apprehended after allegedly shooting and critically wounding a security guard at his Hyde Park home.
  • Police negotiators successfully persuaded Mugabe to surrender following a brief period where he locked himself inside the residence.
  • This shooting is the latest in a series of violent allegations against Mugabe, who currently faces multiple charges involving assault and firearm offences.

Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe, the youngest son of the late Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe, was arrested on Thursday, 19 February 2026, following a violent altercation at his Johannesburg residence.

The incident occurred at his home in Hyde Park, where Mugabe allegedly shot a security guard during a heated dispute.

Emergency services rushed the victim to hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

Following the gunfire, Mugabe initially barricaded himself inside the property, but eventually surrendered peacefully after police negotiators intervened.

While the suspect is in custody, SAPS officers are reportedly still searching the premises for the firearm used in the attack.

This arrest adds to a mounting list of legal troubles for Mugabe, who is allegedly linked to at least seven open criminal cases.

These include a June 2024 incident where he reportedly led an armed group in an assault on security personnel at a mining site.

As investigations into this latest shooting continue, authorities have yet to formalise the full list of charges.
