  • Pretoria motorists should expect major traffic disruptions on Monday due to a planned march by MAWUSA.
  • The union is calling for permanent jobs for Community Work Programme and EPWP workers.
  • Several key streets will be closed, with police deployed to monitor the march and assist with traffic control.

Motorists have been warned of road closures that may disrupt traffic in the City of Tshwane on Monday.

Major routes will experience high traffic volumes due to a march by the Maanda Ashu Workers Union of South Africa (MAWUSA).

The purpose of the march is to demand permanent employment for Community Work Programme and Expanded Public Works Programme workers.

Tshwane Metro Police spokesperson Sello Maremane says the marchers will gather at the Old Putco Depot in Marabastad from 10:00.

“The route of the march is as follows: From the gathering point, they will join Struben Street, turn right onto Sophie de Bruyn Street, turn left at Madiba Street, and proceed until they reach their destination at the Department of Public Works, 256 Madiba Street, Pretoria. They are expected to disperse from the Department of Public Works at 14:00,” said Maremane.

The following streets will be affected:

* Struben Street

* Kgosi Mampuru Street

* Sophie de Bruyn Street

* Madiba Street

* Bosman Street

The Tshwane Metro Police and South African Police Service officers will be deployed to monitor the march and all affected streets.

Motorists have been urged to use alternative routes where possible.
