Orlando Pirates forward Kermit Erasmus and head coach Jose Riveiro says their supporters will outnumber Mamelodi Sundowns ahead of an incredible spectacle in the MTN8 final at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
The iconic 2010 FIFA World Cup venue, where Riveiro won his first title as Pirates coach in the same competition will host yet another domestic cup final as a sold-out affair.
In a repeat of last season’s semi-final tie, and arguably two of the strongest teams in the Premier Soccer League at present, it’s set to provide the two sets of fans and even the neutrals a mouth-watering affair.
“It says to me, people love football in this country [with Moses Mabhida sold out], and if we being honest, 90% of the supporters will be for us,” Erasmus said ahead of the game.
“We have a huge fan base, a huge following for the club, we looking forward to the game, it’s going to be an exciting game. Not only for people at the stadium but for people all over the country…
“So we’re looking for an entertaining match and the best version of ourselves as Orlando Pirates, to give our best and make our fans happy.”
Riveiro, when recalling the special memories of last season, in which they lifted the MTN8 and Nedbank Cup in his debut season says he’s hopeful more special moments and be created in KwaZulu Natal – where they have achieved favourable results since his arrival.
“There are beautiful memories at [Moses Mabhida] but we want to add more, we want to repeat, it’s a stadium where we usually manage to play well and get good results, everyone we travel to Durban,” Riveiro said.
“Probably it won’t play an important role [the memories] but it makes you feel a bit more at home, we know it’s going to be sold out – we know that the majority of the fans are going to be Buccaneers, no question about it and that’s going to be an extra for us.
“It’s extra motivation, we have the opportunity to… it’s a perfect game, a final in Durban with our fans against an incredible team as well, so every aspect to offer a good show is there, so hopefully we can add more memorable things.”
