Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has confirmed that the Buccaneers have brought in Scott Chickelday as striker coach as part of the technical team.
During midweek, Chickelday took to social media to announce that he had started working for the Buccaneers, even though the club did not confirm his arrival.
However, on Saturday after their 2-1 defeat to Cape Town City, Riveiro confirmed that Chickelday was brought in pretty much in a similar role to Benni McCarthy at Manchester United.
“It’s the way that football is going, nobody gets surprised when we speak about Goalkeeper coaches, for example,” he said when asked by iDiski Times.
“Football is going in the direction of specialists, who got to be part of the coaching staff like Benni McCarthy for example, pretty much doing the same role at Manchester United.
“In this case it’s one more element in our coaching staff, who is trying to help us to achieve our objective collectively. In this case working with a specific position and hopefully he can be comfortable with us and contribute to the success of the club.”
Pirates only scored their 10th of the DStv Premiership on Saturday, and are yet to score any goal in the second of league match.
The defeat saw them drop behind Cape Town City into seventh spot on the log, with 19 points from 15 games.
