Sarah Malinga, affectionately known as “South Africa’s Gogo” has passed away at the age of 76.

Her granddaughter, Karabo Moloi, announced the death via a post on Instagram.

Malinga was widely known for her videos on social media, where South Africans dubbed her their “Gogo”.

She passed away on Saturday, 17 October.

Netflix debut

She recently made her Netflix debut on drama series Umthetho. This is a seven-episode drama following a young prosecutor Mbali, who becomes entangled in a prison syndicate led by her brother Moses, played by Tony Kgoroge.

Karabo confirmed that her grandmother passed away peacefully.

“Following her peaceful passing on the night of October 17th, our family has been deeply moved by the overwhelming flood of condolences, prayers, and messages from supporters asking how they can contribute toward laying Gogo to rest,” she wrote on the Backabuddy page.

KARABO’S EMOTIONAL TRIBUTE TO GRANDMOTHER

“2026?? Nah go sharp darling 💔😔🤝. It breaks my heart to have to write this, but unfortunately, Gogo passed on last night . I honestly don’t even know where to begin or how to put everything I’m feeling into words right now,” she wrote on Instagram.

“You guys have been part of our journey, from the laughs, the dancing, the funny videos, and all the beautiful moments we’ve shared with you. You’ve loved Gogo, prayed for her, supported her, and celebrated every little milestone with us, especially during her recovery. For that, I will forever be grateful,” she continued.

“Gogo was so much more than just my grandmother. She was my everything, and sharing her with you all has been one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever experienced. Thank you for loving her the way you did, for every kind message, every prayer, and for always showing us so much love,” she went on to say.

“My heart is broken, and I’m still trying to process everything. Please keep my family and I in your prayers during this difficult time❤️. Rest peacefully, Gogo. Thank you for the love, the memories, the laughter, and for being such a beautiful part of my life. I will love you forever ❤️😔🕊️,” she ended.
