Rhythm City Actor Mncedisi Shabangu Has Died

Mncedisi Shabangu, an actor, playwright, and theatre director, has died. He was 53.

Mthokozisi Shabangu, the actor’s brother, confirmed the news to SurgeZirc SA saying Mncedisi died in the early hours of Sunday after complaining of chest pains.

“He just complained about chest pains. It was a short notice sickness … he was rushed to the clinic and on arrival he was certified dead.” he said.

The actor’s Facebook page posted an official statement. “Dear all, it is with great sadness that the Shabangu family informs you of the sudden passing of Mncedisi Baldwin Shabangu. He passed on in the early hours of this morning. The family appreciates all messages of condolence and requests privacy at this difficult time. Memorial and funeral arrangements will be announced soon.” read the statement.

Mthokozisi mentioned that the family is requesting privacy while an autopsy is performed to determine the cause of death.

Mncedisi was best known for his role on Rhythm City as Khulekani Ngobese. Among many other shows, he appeared on The Lab and iNumber Number.

Tributes to the late actor have flooded the timeline, with friends and fans lamenting his passing.
