Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly made an offer for Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner.

The 28-year-old is currently a free agent having parted ways with Sekhukhune United this week.

Amakhosi, who are looking to strengthen their squad for next season, are in pole position to sign the talented keeper.

According to SABC Sport, Chiefs are close to finalising a deal with the Bafana goalkeeper.

“The public broadcaster established that Chiefs have now tabled a firm offer to the Bafana Bafana goalkeeper, with only the final formalities, including personal terms and a medical, still to be concluded before the move is completed,” SABC Sport wrote.

“The latest development marks a significant turnaround in the race for Leaner, who had attracted strong interest from both Pirates and AmaZulu following confirmation of his departure from Sekhukhune.”

Kaizer Chiefs to sign new goalkeeper

The public broadcaster also mentioned that Orlando Pirates had pulled out of the race to sign Leaner.

The keeper was impressive with Babina Noko this past season, which saw him earn a Bafana call-up

“His performances and professionalism were rewarded with a call-up to the South African senior national team, a testament to his dedication and quality. The club extends its sincere gratitude for his commitment and contribution. We thank you, Renaldo,” Sekhukhune said after the keeper’s departure.

Leaner to Chiefs will be a good move for the goalkeeper but will have to compete with the likes of Brandon Petersen, Bruce Bvuma and Fiacre Ntwari.

Do you think Leaner will get game time at Chiefs?
