Manchester City were held at Newcastle while Arsenal and Liverpool picked up vital wins — but Premier League super Saturday belonged to Chelsea and Cole Palmer.
The Blues hosted Brighton on the goal rush; and the first half was simply breathtaking.
Palmer’s nine minute hatrick was followed by one more as he became the first player in Premier League history to score four goals before half-time in a single game.
The Seagulls scored first through Georginho Rutter and Carlos Baleba grabbed a consolation before the break, too. But it was Palmer’s afternoon as the hosts grabbed a 4-2 win at the Bridge.
Elsewhere in the mid-afternoon kick-offs, Arsenal had to dig deep to beat Leicester City 4-2 at the Emirates.
James Justin netted a brace to ensure proceedings were level heading into second half stoppage time.
Wilfred Ndidi found his own net and Kai Havertz put the icing on the cake, though, as the Gunners went back to winning ways following their draw at the Etihad last week.
At Molineux, Wolves lacked the confidence to make the magic happen in the final third, but certainly frustrated visiting Liverpool in the opening exchanges.
Ibrahima Konate would find the back of the net to settle the nerves just before the break. He then unsettled them on the other side of half-time after his error led to a Rayan Ait Nouri equaliser.
It would only be a matter of time before the Reds went in front again, though, as Mohamed Salah kept his cool from the penalty spot to send Arne Slot’s side back to the summit of the Premier League table.
In the day’s other games, Brentford and West Ham finished 1-1 while Everton beat Crystal Palace 2-1 and Fulham were 1-0 victors away to Nottingham Forest.
