Three people, including the award-winning Sotho rapper Malome Vector, died in a tragic car accident on Wednesday afternoon.
Malome Vector, whose real name was Bokang Moleli, was well-known in the South African music scene.
His former record label, Ambitiouz Entertainment, shared the sad news on Wednesday evening.
“The Lion of Lesotho’s sun has set. Our deepest condolences go out to his loved ones and industry peers during this time of profound loss,” the label stated.
The accident also claimed the life of upcoming musician Lizwe Wokuqala.
The Free State Department of Health confirmed that three men died at the scene of the accident on the N1 near the Koppies turn-off close to Kroonstad.
Two other people, a man and a woman, were taken to Boitumelo Regional Hospital.
A source told News24 that Malome Vector was travelling from Gauteng through the Free State to Lesotho to shoot a music video when the accident happened shortly after 1pm.
Reports suggest that the vehicle collided with a heavy motor vehicle.
It appears musical collaborators Lizwe Wokuqala and Puleng Phoofolo were also involved.
There are also unconfirmed reports that another artist, Ntate Stunna, was involved in the accident and may have died, though no official statement has been released.
