Rapper A-Reece claps back at fan who called his music “for stoners”

A-Reece fires back at troll who mocked his “stoner music”

A-Reece had social media in stitches after he cleverly clapped back at a troll who tried to mock him for making “music for stoners.”

The rapper, who’s often teased about his signature laid-back sound, didn’t just respond, he turned the joke around so smoothly that fans couldn’t stop laughing.

For years, critics have accused the Meanwhile in Honeydew hitmaker of lacking versatility and sticking to a sound that appeals to one specific audience.

While many artists in SA hip-hop have drifted into other genres or experimented with new trends, Reece has remained loyal to his signature style, even when that invites negative commentary.

On Wednesday, 19 November, an X user, @Khanyiithyst, tried to take a jab at him, claiming he makes music for “boys who have weed ashes on their beds.”

Instead of taking offence, A-Reece decided to level up the joke. His clapback? Pure gold.

“That’s not completely true, the ash is also in their toilet bowls, couches, empty water bottles, and McDonald’s fries boxes. Get it right next time, please,” he wrote.

His response came shortly after fans speculated that Cassper Nyovest had subtly criticised A-Reece during a recent 5FM interview.

Cassper argued that some rappers make music “for other rappers,” saying, “I make music for everybody; these rappers make music for other rappers… you’ll never see 40,000 rappers in a stadium coming to support another rapper. It doesn’t make sense.”

He doubled down, adding that rappers focused on impressing other emcees only get paid in “oooh” and “aaah”, something he wants no part of.

Still, Reece’s fans backed him in the comments, proudly claiming the “stoner” label and laughing along with his joke.

One user wrote, “I ash up on anything around me… takeaway boxes, the lower layer of the grinder, just anywhere. GET IT RIGHT NEXT TIME, we beg.”

Another added, “Bro? Some of it is actually on my new sneakers. As usual.”
