Ramovic Makes Pirates & Chiefs Claim

TS Galaxy head coach Sead Ramovic believes Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs have enough quality to challenge Mamelodi Sundowns for the league title this season.

Ramovic was appointed as Galaxy head coach in October 2021 and since then he has witnessed Sundowns winning the league title two times.

In 2021/22, Sundowns won the league with 65 points, leaving a 16 points gap between them and second-placed Cape Town City, while the following season Downs defended their title convincingly after finishing the season with 70 points and a massive 24-point gap to second-placed Orlando Pirates.

The German coach has come out to say Pirates and Chiefs should not be happy with competing for second in the league, instead they must challenge Sundowns for the title.

“I think we have to be honest and say Orlando [Pirates] is also a very, very fantastic team – it’s not only Sundowns,” Ramovic told the media.

“You also have Chiefs in our group, you also have Cape Town [City], there’s also other clubs that they improved a lot.

“But all in all, Orlando and Chiefs, in my view, they should always compete to win the league and not be happy for the second place.

“Because why? Top club, top coach, top players. It will be nice that we have more excitements upfront [at the top of the log], so it is not only Sundowns that are with many points ahead.

“I think with this squad that Orlando have and also Chiefs, they can compete and they will.”

Removic also insisted that the league campaign is still long and things could change at the summit, despite Sundowns looking like the run-away leaders after starting with eight wins from eight games.

“It’s a long season until May, so anything can happen,” he added.

“I think that Orlando now after the cup win, that they will get even more momentum and motivation. They have three games in hand. If they win all those three, they will be in the top.

“I think that Orlando and Chiefs, of course, they can go [compete]. With the financial power, with the players they have, with the coaches they have, I think it will be an exciting league still until May.”

Galaxy, meanwhile, currently sit in 12th place with nine points from eight games. They have scored the least goals among all teams in the league with three, but also only conceded six so far.

The Rockets are back in action on Wednesday when they will face Sundowns in the Round of 16 clash of the Carling Knockout Cup.
