The African National Congress (ANC) cannot support Operation Dudula, according to President Cyril Ramaphosa. During the ANC’s Mpumalanga conference over the weekend, Ramaphosa spoke on the trending topic.
Nhlanhla ‘Lux’ Dlamini’s Operation Dudula, according to Ramaphosa, is a “vigilante-like force.” “We cannot support a vigilante-type-of move against a group of people and particularly targeting them as foreign nationals because what we are doing then is just to divide our people on the African continent,” said Ramaphosa.
Pule Mabe, the ANC’s national spokesperson, had a different viewpoint than Ramaphosa. Mabe indicated in an interview with a well-known publication that he backed communities that stood up to illegal operations.
Operation Dudula has sparked debate across the country. Nhlanhla Lux was detained and charged recently, but the group’s members have pledged their unwavering support for the movement.
Fees Must Fall campaigner Bonginkosi Khanyile has endorsed the Operation Dudula movement. Nhlanhla ‘Lux’ Dlamini’s movement has made news for conducting establishment inspections and raids with the goal of locating undocumented foreign nationals.
Khanyile told TimesLIVE that the government must address Operation Dudula as well as others who share the same values as members.
Khanyile believes that those in positions of power should make equal decisions and that South Africans should have a say in the issues. He added that politicians must be upfront about their positions on concerns raised by the movement.
Khanyile was a member of the Economic Freedom Fighters in the past (EFF). EFF Secretary-General Marshall Dlamini criticized him. Dlamini said Khanyile should be treated as an enemy by the Red Berets.
Khanyile stated that the negative press surrounding Operation Dudula has not deterred him. Operation Dudula, in Khanyile’s words, is not against foreign nationals, but against unlawful foreign nationals.
