Ramaphosa denies receiving remuneration from Phala Phala

President Cyril Ramaphosa denies receiving any remuneration from Phala Phala and claims that his only salary is that from his position as President of South Africa.

This after the Section 89 panel released the findings of the Phala Phala inquiry into whether Ramaphosa will have to answer questions over the cover-up of the $4 million theft from the President’s cattle farm.

The findings of the inquiry were handed to the Speaker of the National Assembly on Wednesday, 30 November.

Ramaphosa’s responses to the panel were apparently leaked before details of the findings could be released to the public.

Apart from denying that he’s receiving any remuneration from Phala Phala, Ramaphosa also suggest that the stolen money came from the sale of 20 buffalo which was bought by a “mystery” Sudanese businessman.

Ramaphosa also claimed the allegations that the robbers were held hostage and tortured were unfounded. These allegations were made by Arthur Fraser who opened a case against Ramaphosa in relation to the 2020 theft scandal.

In addition, the President denies bribing people to keep the theft under the radar.

As President, Ramaphosa should not have other businesses in operation, as his only and most important role must be his title as leader of the country.

According to Ramaphosa, he declared his financial and business interests after becoming Deputy President in 2012.

Cyril Ramaphosa owns two farms, Ntaba Nyoni in Mpumalanga and Phala Phala in Limpopo.

The leaked response from Ramaphosa includes, “I am entitled to retain assets or financial interests where no conflict of interest would arise, if these are declared. I do not perform paid work for Ntaba Nyoni, nothing I said has ever suggest as much, nor do I receive remuneration for work or service other than my functions as President in the service of the people of South Africa.”
